The role:
Contribute to the overall success of the AML Operations unit by ensuring the execution of specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives in support of the team's strategies and objectives. Ensure that all activities carried out comply with internal policies, procedures, and regulations.
The Analyst will investigate and evaluate the customer relationship to identify potential financial, reputational,
operational, and/or compliance risks, as well as activities that pose money laundering or terrorist financing risks. Depending on the needs and assignment of Global AML Operations, and with a customer-centric culture, the Analyst may cover investigations related to one or more of the AML functions within the unit, reviewing and assessing risk of Scotiabank clients.
Is this role right for you? In this role you will:
• Actively pursue efficient and effective operations, ensuring the adequacy, adherence, and effectiveness of
daily business controls to meet obligations regarding operational, regulatory compliance, Anti-Money
Laundering/Terrorist Financing (AML/TF), and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities
under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework,
Global AML/TF Prevention Manual, and Business Conduct Guidelines.
• Investigate and analyze transactions, and/or identify unusual patterns of international payment activity
and/or trade finance activity by applying expert knowledge to assess operational and money laundering
risks.
• Help ensure the Bank meets its regulatory obligations for AML prevention to detect and report suspicious
activities.
• Prepare risk assessment reports or spreadsheets for management review, describing the suspicious money
laundering typology, the scope of the investigation, risk assessment, and recommended corrective actions.
• Conduct thorough analyses to support a reasoned, accurate, and consistent risk rating assessment per case.
• Develop and maintain a solid knowledge and understanding of the Bank's AML/TF prevention policies and
procedures, money laundering and terrorist financing regulations, industry best practices, criminal
typologies, and trend developments.
• Help mitigate financial and reputational risk related to the Bank.
• Support business line colleagues and promptly respond to partner and stakeholder requests and concerns
(including Security and Investigations, and Shared Services) in the evaluation and resolution of cases
initiated by those groups or any other assigned task.
• Support Senior Analysts as required, and the Manager and/or Senior Manager in AML operations to mitigate
the risk associated with money laundering or terrorist financing.
• Maintain expected productivity and quality standards defined through performance metrics.
• Prepare written risk assessment reports and case memorandums for executive and/or audit (internal and/or
external) reviews, recommending a remediation plan.
• Stay up-to-date with current and emerging trends, typologies, and legislative changes by participating in
AML training sessions and accessing industry resources.
• Contribute to the development of typologies and/or their identification based on significant cases.
• Ensure all case corrections are completed within established timelines.
• Actively identify process, technology, and system improvement opportunities, and participate as
appropriate in the implementation process.
• Consider the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture in daily activities and decisions.
• Assist in drafting guides and/or peer training.
• Advocate for a high-performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
Dimensions:
Analysts are part of the AML Operations unit, located in Bogotá, Colombia, adding value and driving
efficiencies by providing routing services for high-volume alert activities. Analysts are responsible for
processing work efficiently and effectively and are expected to work independently with limited supervision.
General direction is provided by the team leader when necessary.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We’d love to work with you if you have:
• Degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Law, or related fields with a minimum of 6
months - 2 years of relevant experience or its equivalent in a financial institution, compliance,
commercial area, or retail network. Additionally:
• Strong analytical skills to make rational and logical deductions, sometimes with limited
information
• Ability to gather, analyze, organize, document, and present information concisely and
organized
• Proven fact-finding skills with a clear understanding of key points and probing when
conducting corresponding conversations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Solid understanding of corporate, commercial, and small business banking products,
processes, policies, and practices
• Proven use of logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative
solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
• Thorough knowledge of the Bank's regulatory and compliance requirements related to
customer onboarding
• Research skills to develop business intelligence in specific industries and business models
• Understanding of banking products, processes, policies, and practices
• Some knowledge of anti-money laundering and KYC policies and procedures
• Proficiency with computer applications, including Word, Excel, and Internet search engines
• ACAMS/CAMS certification and ManchesterCF certification are an asset
• Working knowledge of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing
Act and supporting regulations
• English and Spanish required
Working Conditions:
• Work in a standard office environment, standard and non-standard business hours are frequent.
Computer, monitor and/or laptop, and auxiliary system are used for daily activities and
communication with business partners, regulators, and clients. No travel required.
