The Scrum Master is an experienced Agile practitioner who embodies servant leadership  enabling  and supporting cross-functional teams to deliver value to our customers.   Act as a champion of agile values, principles and practices for the organization.  Scrum masters are change agents who partner with Functional Groups (risk, compliance HR, Operations, Finance etc outside of the teams to ensure these interactions with the team maximize the value created and delivered by those teams. Working closely with the team they facilitate scrum events, have teams track progress and visualize work to create transparency and to highlight obstacles impeding team progress. The Scrum Master is vested with the team to facilitate the meeting of commitments. The Scrum Master partners with the  Product Owner to ensure that ‘what’ the team is working on is clear and ‘why’ it is valuable to our customers and our organization.   A scrum master educates, mentors and coaches to enable collaborative, focused and committed teams that continuously improve their practices to become self-organizing and high performing



  • Build out agile team capabilities by training, mentoring and coaching team members on agile practices
  • Enable transparency by collecting, analyzing and reporting on agreed to common team metrics
  • Acts as a health monitor for the collective team – checking that commitments, pace and quality are on track
  • Apply agile frameworks for effective workflow visualization and management (Kanban, Scrum Boards,SAFe etc)
  • Working with the team to proactively identify obstacles, resolving with input from team, product owners/ stakeholders and escalating where appropriate
  • Foster strong relationships with Product Owner/stakeholders focused on sustained value delivery and  quality that delights users
  • Partner with Agile Coach and other agile teams to share findings, best practices, and resources to help mature the organization’s agility
  • Facilitate team events like lift offs and team working agreements
  • Experiment with new techniques and practices to improve team’s ability to deliver value
  • Use tools such as Jira/Confluence as a repository to house common proven Agile practices and experiments, including results and lessons learned for the team
  • Maintain organizational impediments backlog educate teams on identifying and managing dependencies with other teams
  • Stay current on trends in financial services industry and  digital banking
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct Risk







  • University or College Degree (Business, Technology, HR)
  • 3-5 years related experience in Agile frameworks, product management or technical solution delivery is preferred.
  • Experienced in project and product delivery
  • Previous work experience with accountabilities relating but not limited to:
  • Leading, supporting  IT and business teams


Professional Certification


  • Certified Scrum designation is required


Technical Skills


  • Working knowledge of software delivery, finance and risk




  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate at all levels (from technical discussions to high level executive).
  • Ability to take a pragmatic approach in coaching teams with the ability to adapt based on the agile ‘readiness’ of the team they are working with.




  • 2+ years Scrum Master / Management experience with teams
  • 2+ years delivering with variety of Agile frameworks including Scrum, and Kanban
  • Experience developing training materials and conducting training
  • Experience with the Atlassian suite such as Jira and Confluence
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and Financial Services background is desired
  • Agile/Scrum master certifications deep knowledge of Agile values principles and practices
  • Excellent written, verbal, virtual, and live communications skills.
  • Enthusiastic, thorough, inclusive and results-oriented; Ability and desire to help others thrive in a dynamic team-oriented environment.
  • Eager to mentor, teach, share and learn.
  • A positive attitude, thirst for knowledge, team oriented, pragmatic, willingness, the curiosity to learn and the flexibility to adapt to new and evolving environments.
  • Strong organizational sense and effective time management skills
