In this role as an Application Support Specialist, GWRT-GCMT-Commodities, FX Options & Derivatives Technology US. Contributes to the overall success of the GWRT Commodities technology globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge. 
  • As a Application Support Specialist in GWRT-GCMT-Commodities, FX Options & Derivatives Technology team, will be responsible for the system support, scalability, availability and pragmatism.
  • Focus on building out digital experiences for Capital Market systems using industry standard technologies and best practices. 
  • Work with Commodities Front Office users on delivering technology solutions with a focus on Pricing, P/L, Market Risk of Derivative Products including swaps and options 
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. 
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.  
  • Create and support Test Automation and Continuous Integration & Deployment methodology/tooling. System troubleshooting and problem solving across platform and application domains.
  • Create documentation including design, procedures, operational support artifacts
  • Production support and escalation during the day as well as off-hours.
  • Providing sound and rapid recommendations for immediate workarounds or resolutions that minimizes unplanned production outages.
  • Work with development team to deploy business services and applications through to production.
  • Incorporate feedback into process and platform to smooth transition to modern analytics practices.

Do you have the skills you need to succeed? We’d love to work with you if you have:  


  • Significant experience and knowledge of Commodity markets in the US/Canada including Oil and Natural Gas – 3+ years of hands on experience 
  • Strong working experience with either in-house built Commodities systems or vendor Commodities trading systems such as Triple Point CommodityXL  (preferred) or OpenLink Endur – 2+ years of hands on experience 
  • Strong Knowledge of Market Risk as it relates to Derivatives products in the Commodities space (or a different asset class).  
  • This includes understanding of higher order greeks for options, pricing and P/L – 5+ years of hands on experience 
  • Requires the ability to think strategically and have analytical and proactive problem solving skills.  Ability to multitask and prioritize projects. 
  • Experience as a DevOps Engineer in a 24x7 uptime environment, including automation experience with configuration management tools.
  • Knowledge of Linux system administration, experience with Weblogic administration would be an advantage
  • Proficient with source code versioning tools (Git, SVN) and build tools (Maven, Gradle, Ant).
  • Experience working with SQL (Oracle) – 3+ years of hands on experience
