Global Banking and Markets (GBM) provides a full range of credit, risk management and investment banking products and services relevant to the financing and strategic development needs of our clients. Our products include investment banking, mergers & acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading and research, debt products, derivatives, foreign currencies and commodities. We also cross-sell the full range of wholesale products and services offered by Scotiabank.


The Credit Analytics Group (CAG) is part of Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB) within GBM.   The team provides support to the Corporate Banking teams globally and acts as a training and develop program to prepare Analysts for future careers in Corporate Banking. 


In this role, you will:

  • Prepare for a career in Corporate Banking by providing high-quality analysis and account management support including 
  • Performing certain fundamental credit analysis functions for the Corporate Banking Industry groups or Global Capital Markets Banking team
  • Performing annual reviews as well as account monitoring activities, as assigned
  • Get involved in ongoing business projects and work side by side with our professionals.
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

Regular Responsibilities:

  • Perform analytics functions – financial statement analysis and risk assessment, with extremely high degree of attention to details and accuracy, in accordance with guidelines, policies and established procedures
  • Demonstrate straightforward and succinct identification and analysis of key risks of existing or proposed clients and/or transactions
  • Analyze, prepare and process annual review or credit requests in accordance with Bank policies and guidelines
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency as appropriate to the situation
  • Develop industry expertise for assigned industries
  • Develop product knowledge and expertise
  • Complete other tasks as assigned, i.e. research, assisting industries in special projects, etc.
  • Demonstrate professional approach in interactions with key stakeholders. Promote cooperation and strong professional working relationships within the team, and with  the Corporate Banking sector teams, GCM Banking, GBM Product Groups, and Global Risk Management.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and be seen as a valuable team resource
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure to meet deadlines, while maintaining high quality work

Periodic Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with field and bring to the attention of CAG Supervisors emerging issues in a timely manner
  • Mentor new co-ops and assist with group training
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills you need to succeed? We'd love to work with you, if you have:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Business, Science, Technology, Engineering, Economics or Mathematics discipline or related fields (advanced degree, MBA, MFin, CPA, or CFA a plus)
  • Degree to be completed by January 2022 latest
  • Demonstrated interest and knowledge in the financial markets
  • Proven record of outstanding achievement in academic and extracurricular activities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to overcome challenges presented by a constantly changing work environment
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Solid understanding of financial statements and accounting
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese and/or French would be an asset
  • Financial Modelling skills an asset
  • Solid understanding of core credit products (loans, cash management, derivatives, FX, etc.) an asset
