The Specialist, Business Controls contributes to the overall success of Jarislowsky Fraser’s regulatory and operational risk implementation, ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s strategies and objectives and that business activities are executed and delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.


The individual will contribute to and drive results by working with internal stakeholders and support groups to satisfy both the regulatory and risk management frameworks.

 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

• Support the day-to-day management of the firm’s non-financial risks by overseeing first line supervision of operational, regulatory compliance and money-laundering/terrorist financing risks;
• Ensure the business meets and adheres to governing regulations, internal policies and procedures and collaborate with business teams, support teams and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of strategic approaches;
• Identify gaps and opportunities for efficiencies in the existing Business Controls program, and participate in developing, maintaining and implementing changes to the firm's business risk practices, controls, policies and  procedures;
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, partners and senior management, including Global Wealth Management (GWM) Internal Controls, Global Compliance and Global AML, through delivery of consistent, timely, practical and accurate information;
• Support JF’s risk oversight partnerships and related engagements, including regulatory reviews, audit, testing reviews and risk assessments;
• Maintain awareness and knowledge of regulatory and operational risk requirements, developments and best practices to provide ongoing and proactive support to the Business in relation to products, programs and business initiatives;
• Understand how Scotiabank and JF’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions;
• Champion a high performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.

 

 

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?  We would love to work with you if you have:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, preferably in Business, Finance or related discipline.
• 3+ years financial services industry experience in risk and controls, compliance, investment management or other relevant functional area.
• Good multi-tasking, planning, organizational and time-management skills.
• Strong analytical skills, problem-solving capability and a keen eye for detail.
• Self-motivated, confident and capable of working both independently and in a team environment, prioritizing workload and seeking support when appropriate.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft 365 suite of applications, databases and related systems and software applications. Programming knowledge is an asset.

 

 

In addition to French, the successful candidate must also have sufficient knowledge of English, as the work involves interacting and collaborating regularly with groups and individuals based in Toronto, as well as constantly interacting with other people, including clients, who speak English, locally and elsewhere.
