In this role, the Research Associate will work in a dynamic environment amongst a small group of highly trained professional analysts and portfolio managers. This position is regarded as a steppingstone towards increased responsibilities and incumbents will benefit from one-on-one coaching and mentorship.

 

The successful applicant will contribute to the overall success of the JFL Research Department ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

 

We are currently seeking an Associate to join our Global Equity investment team. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has a strong knowledge of financial statements, established modeling acumen, as well as investment report generation. The successful candidates will have a demonstrated passion for investing.

 

 

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

 

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader JFL’s relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Work closely with Senior Analysts and Portfolio Managers in to support of idea generation, model maintenance and overall processes within the Toronto investment team.
  • Build and update detailed financial models.
  • Collect, analyze, and input company financial data.
  • Maintain database tables.
  • Understand how JFL’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with the firm’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

The Must Haves:

 

  • Minimum one year of relevant buy side, investment banking or sell side equity research experience
  • Undergraduate degree with strong academic credentials
  • CFA designation or pursuit of this designation is an asset
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven passion for investing, member of an investment program or club.
  • Strong numeracy skills
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change
  • Reliability, with good judgment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in analytical tools such as Excel, Bloomberg and Capital IQ.
  • Previously worked as a research assistant on the analyst team in the banking sector (assets) banking sector (assets).
