Advisory Business Analyst ScotiaMocatta

POSITION SUMMARY:
The incumbent is responsible for delivering solutions to complex business problems for the ScotiaMocatta line of business. The incumbent is responsible for management of small and large initiatives and projects from concept through to implementation including comprehensive management of project finances. The incumbent is also responsible for research and analysis leading to the requirements and process definition. Furthermore, the incumbent is responsible for systems testing, user training and the provision of ongoing support worldwide.
Key accountabilities for this role:
- Independently resolve complex, multi-faceted problems to meet the business needs of Scotia Capital and Integrated Support Services, by applying their financial and technological knowledge to the design of methodologies, models, and/or systems solutions. This may involve rapid prototyping, with requirements and solutions developed on an iterative basis, that provides interim deliverables until a final production solution is created. This includes conducting research and analysis, accurately and clearly defining user requirements and processes, and liaising with the users.
- Manage multiple projects and initiatives to implement solutions to business problems. This involves planning and scheduling resources, developing detailed project plans, monitoring progress against planned objectives, financial review, and securing consensus and co-operation from users and senior management.
- Participate in the systems implementation process by defining business requirements and processes, developing test strategies and test cases, performing testing, defining user procedures and workflows, developing conversion and implementation strategies, verifying conversion, providing user documentation, providing user training, and providing post-implementation support.
- Provide business support to all global trading units across Canada and the International sites, including new and existing product and deal structuring, ad hoc queries and MIS, user training, and assisting with the design and implementation of systems enhancements. This is made more challenging due to differences in time zones and the variation in the business lines, which may require additional time to service the business needs beyond regular business hours. The incumbent must be very comfortable and capable of dealing with the demanding needs of the Front, Middle and Back Office users. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that management is kept informed and that problems and issues are escalated appropriately.
- Supervise business analysts, technical staff, and users on an individual project basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- The incumbent must have very good knowledge of current best practices in delivering technology solutions for the Financial Services Industry.
- The incumbent must have very good knowledge of financial instruments including financial market conventions, valuation methods, risk management methodologies and current and anticipated regulatory requirememts and end-to-end workflows that integrate Front, Middle, and Back Offices.
- Ideally, the incumbent has knowledge of and experience delivering technology solutions for a Capital Markets, Precious Metals or FX business.
- Specific working knowledge of the Murex MX application would be an asset.
- The incumbent must be a creative, self starting, results-oriented, and highly motivated individual with good analytical skills so to apply this knowledge in the provision of resolution to complex business problems.
- The incumbent must possess a solid understanding of systems development techniques, including requirements specification, testing methodologies, real-time analytical and formal modelling tools and stay current with the rapidly changing technology landscape.
- Furthermore, the incumbent must possess good interpersonal and communication skills, and exercise diplomacy and judgement, to effectively work with end users from the Front, Middle and Back Offices, as well as project team members.
EDUCATION AND ACCREDITATIONS:
- A recognized under-graduate or post-graduate degree in computer science, mathematics, business management or related discipline is required.
